"There are two ways of spreading light -- to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it." --Edith Wharton.

Our Mission is to be both candle and mirror to those affected by Sickle Cell disease. We will accomplish this by educating ourselves and others about how to not only live with Sickle Cell Disease, but to thrive while living with it.

SickleCellSurvivor.Org is a place for sharing life experiences, providing helpful information, supporting one-another, and inspiring all affected by Sickle Cell Disease to live as candle and mirror!

Remington College Partners with Sickle Cell Disease Association of America for Blood Drives in 2010

Remington College and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America are partnering for a series of blood drives to be held at Remington College campuses across the country throughout the year. The program is called “3 Lives” - because three lives may be saved for every one pint of blood donated.

“Our goal is to collect hundreds of pints of blood that will help out hospitals and blood centers in the communities where we have campuses,” said Jack Forrest, Remington College President and CEO.

The blood drives will focus on the need for minority donors – especially African Americans.

Pain crisi control

I am interested in hearing from other sicklecell survivors how their pain crisis has been managed. This is a very important factor in the quality of life of SSD sufferers, and has not received as much attention as it deserves.

Light Teeth Whitening

For those who wish to have a dazzling smile there is no better treatment than to go for light teeth whitening systems. Your teeth lose their original white color owing to eating and as a result of aging. People who consume lots of dark drinks, coffee, alcohol etc. have more stained teeth than others. If you get your shinny teeth back, you will not only look younger but more appealing as well. There are scores of products and treatments which can help you to have a brighter smile. However, the light light teeth whitening is brimming with benefits and for this reason, many people are choosing to have this treatment.

Tips on Hiring a Maid

Fast-paced lifestyles, hectic schedules and a lack of free time can lead one to consider hiring a maid service to handle critical house cleaning duties. But before picking up the phone to schedule an appointment, it is important to know whom you are letting into your home.

Bonding: Make sure the maid service is bonded for its house cleaning clientèle. Should a theft occur, you need to be protected. Some companies, if they are bonded at all, protect only themselves, not the consumer.

Insurance: Make sure the house cleaning company is insured. If a maid slips and falls while cleaning the shower, your homeowner's policy might not cover the incident. The maid service should have liability and employee accident coverage and should include your home, the housecleaner(s) and the company.

organic

I have always been amazed at the way an ordinary observer lends so much more credence and attaches so much more importance to waking events than to those occurring in dreams... Man... is above all the plaything of his memory.
